You tried to crash the wedding reception- a little late to the party !
Once you are here for a while you begin to appreciate the "siesta". In the middle of the afternoon, during the heat we retreat to the air conditioned hotel and take a nap.
After finding the bookstore and the day becoming as windy as predicted we headed back to the hotel. The weather has been perfect all week until the wind arrived late yesterday. Rain is predicted for tomorrow and that is when we leave this lovely place. That will make departing easier because we were dreading saying goodbye.
There is one last amazing photo opportunity. We noticed the dinning room is closed for lunch today because of a wedding reception. Lovely flowers, champagne, elegant cake and appetizers all arranged. What we need now is the wedding party. We are going to hang out in the reception area of the dinning room and try to get some photos of the wedding party when they arrive.
The room is ready for guests and wedding cake on table.
We have been here an hour watching people eat, but no wedding party and no bride. The room is uncomfortably quiet, people eating and only a few talking to each other. Did the bride change her mind! Did the groom not show up? The food was all ready prepared and paid for so did everyone just show up to eat and that's it?
Reception area to dinning room.
We hope it is simply consideration for the guests that they are seated and fed while perhaps the wedding party is having photos taken. The guests are all wearing formal gear. Lovely cocktail dress and the men suits, but they don't look like they are having much fun yet. The salads have been finished and the main course is being served. More champagne being poured. I guess by the time they finish all courses we should know if the event is really happening or not.
Small number of guests and NOTHING exciting happening yet.
But it seems strange. The guests are all eating prepared courses of food but no one is touching the elegant buffet tables that are set up along the side of the room. The elegant cake remains uncut end not served.
A young lady dressed as a bridesmaid keeps walking past but she is not smiling. Could it be her shoes hurt, or low blood sugar or a wedding that isn't happening? Here is the time sequence. Guests arrive about 12:30pm, it is now 3:00pm and yes they are still eating. The champagne seems to be helping initiate conversation. At least they are talking more to each other.
Sitting here I remember my wedding. The priest married me to someone named "John". He had a rough day and bit too much wine. I just wanted to get on with it so at that point would have said "Yes" to anything. It was years later, while visiting with friends, that my husband suddenly commented. "By the way, Kathy and I are not really married, but I am the father of her children!" "She actually married some guy named John, but I've never met him." Love protected him, because I allowed him to live.
Ok, We can leave now. An older gentleman came out and I tried to ask him when the wedding was taking place. He spoke no English but graciously returned with a young lady who was fluent. She explained that the event is a 50th Wedding Anniversary party for the older gentleman, his bride and their family. The wedding was 50 years ago. The bride we were waiting for was already there! Then we all laughed.
We were all so glad she showed up.
Thank good ness you found out what was going on.
ReplyDeleteA better ending to the story than the one where your plane left not knowing how the other plane was going to get 18 I think volunteers to not get on the plane. Such a fun trip. Thanks for sharing with all of us.
