Winners and Loser's ......A very fine line between!
The photos we want to share with you tonight were taken through a store window where they were proudly on display.
These are not staged photos. They truly captured some of the moments of the Roped Bullfights. Every year on this island there are more than 200 of these events.
Be sure to look at how close the crowd is to all this activity. One article describing the spectators claimed they all watched from windows and balconies. However it appears only the smart ones do that.
It begins with the firing of a rocket. In the photos you will see The Capinha, that is the spontaneous participant who fights the bull often using an umbrella or piece of clothing. Seriously men who were just watching the spectacle will suddenly dash into the street in a show of bravery holding an umbrella. I know it’s hard to believe, but here are the photos.
On his knees imploring the bull to turn around so he can threaten the bull with that dangerous umbrella. Or perhaps rejoicing that the bull has decided to retreat.
This one is my favorite. The bull just sits there disgusted.
There is no way that bull will move until this guy runs and gets an umbrella. It is beneath the dignity of the bull to exert any effort on a guy that can't remember to bring an umbrella to a bull fight. I mean REALLY how insulting to the bull.
We are whimps when the temperature rises. My body is used to rainy weather with at high of 52. The sunshine here has been wonderful but today this afternoon it climbed to 66 with 89% humidity. We sort of crawled back to the hotel and the air conditioned room. We took a few photos that we will add to tomorrows blog of gardens and other interesting stuff.
We were melting on the street and the little shops have their doors open to shoppers but no air-conditioning.
Thanks for your comments and reading. Will post more tomorrow. I am seven hours ahead of your time but on the same day. Feel free to share the link with your friends, its just fine.
