HAVOC PART 1 AND PART 2.
Havoc Part #1. Well……Creating havoc wherever we go! Seriously, We are simply trying to order a couple of easy sandwiches at the Miami Airport. I mean how hard can it be…..We go the the Earl of Sandwich, and get in a line. It is in front of a computerized menu board. That was our first mistake today. Now the fun begins, Donna selects a sandwich and I help her enter the various commands. Something is wrong we start over, then start over again and then start over again. Now the line is growing behind us and people are peeling off. They were just going to the counter to order, which we did not notice because we thought we HAD to order on this frustrating computer menu. It was like watching Mutt & Jeff, or perhaps Ding & Dong. After a half dozen attempts Donna suggests I stop trying to help her and let her do it! Huh, and that works the very first time I leave her alone. So obviously a computer glitch….Donna gets a table and I volunteer to go to the pick up line and get the order.
Somehow with all the data entry challenges both receipts have the name Donna on them, but I know one should have Kathy on it. So I wait and when they call one with Donna I grab it, then they call Kathy so I get that one. Both orders are exactly what we choose. We are sitting at the table eating when they call “Donna” again and then I notice a very grumpy guy asking for “Kathy’s” sandwich…….I tell Donna just keep your head down and don’t look at the big grumpy guy, I think your’ve got his sandwich. (Keep chewing and avoid eye contact). I feel bad but not enough to admit to being the author of confusion. Eventually the guy gets his order. He spent a few minutes glaring at us, so I think they must have figured out what happened to his Chipotle Chicken Sandwich. There was an escape plan if he wandered over to the table, I was just going to say “She ate it!”
So we plan to travel the world but avoid computerized menus boards as much as possible.
Havoc Part #2. The flight from Miami to Lisbon was 7 1/2 hours.....( If Donna survives this trip she can probably go anywhere in the world just fine!). So far she is still smiling!)
The Lisbon airport is huge so a tram shuttled us from the airplane to the terminal. See photos below....It was traveling like sardines and we were two of the last to get crammed into the very back. Clinging to straps from the ceiling we swayed and bumped our way to the main terminal. Here are the photos.
We were concerned about making our connecting flight to Madeira.....since I am not very good at military time.....we guessed we had a couple of hours. However our departing flight is leaving today, but just barely. We arrived in Lisbon at 7:30am...we will not be missing our connection because it leaves at 10:3 5PM. So the new skill we are learning is how to sleep on unpadded chairs with metal armrests, sitting straight up. Once we board at 10:30pm it will be a short 2 hours flight....That is, according to Donna..."if it doesn't get cancelled". All the flights to Madeira are over booked and with waiting list....we have our seat assignment and boarding passes, as long as it takes off we're good!
Stay tuned - on this trip just about anything can happen......
Ha ha ha….this is definitely an adventure with “the traveling old lady” we are having the best time laughing at our Portuguese and Pollack quirks🤣🤣❤️
