KNOCKED once, Don't know what they are doing in there! We found the Green Door.


Remember the song "Green Door"....."Don't know what their doing but they laugh a lot behind the Green Door.  Well we found a lot of interesting doors today and it was such fun seeing them. Called the Street of Art - Open Doors in Funchal Madeira.  An amazing project painted by art students and local artists, which is a major tourist attraction. Most of these were old or abandoned doors........they have become a cultural experience. Here are some of our favorite ones. The first door was painted in 2011. Now several streets in the old town center of Funchal are revitalized with these lovely creative decorated doors. In several areas sidewalk cafes serve beverages and meals to the tourists who wander about, like us with cameras, taking lots of photos.  Look at these amazing doors!

In the middle of all this there is a stream running through the old town towards the sea. A cool green pretty place.


Now look along side the stream....There is a "cat house"with 4 cozy beds. Can you see the cat asleep inside?

There was a cruise ship docked today so lots of people on the streets and all the Tuk Tuk's were busy. This was a really cute one. 




We head home tomorrow morning early, which is Sunday night Pacific time. You can actually watch our flight take off from Madeira by going to webcamtaxi.com  Once there search countries, for Portugal. Then click on plane spotting - Maderia airport. We will WAVE AT YOU from flight # 1684- TAP Portugal Airlines. Watch 10:00pm Sunday night if you are on Pacific time. We actually leave at 6:00am Monday, Portugal time. If your not on the Pacific coast ask Google what time, there is a chart to help you figure it out. LOL

Today is Donna's 21st  ???? Birthday. She took all the photos you are enjoying. So we are headed to a fancy restaurant with her husbands credit card to celebrate. Tonight the Pancha's are on him! Thanks, Dan.

Just so you know. We are packed and ready to roll. Do not know what to expect when we change planes in Lisbon again. So stay tuned. One more blog before the trip is actually over. See I got almost everything in my suitcases.  Enjoy

  Havoc Part #1.  Well……Creating havoc wherever we go!  Seriously,  We are simply trying to order a couple of easy sandwiches at the Miami Airport. I mean how hard can it be…..We go the the Earl of Sandwich, and get in a line. It is in front of a computerized menu board. IS THIS THE RIGHT LINE ???

Some of you are trying to read the blog with a magnifying glass. So I am trying to enlarge the type and make it darker. Not trying to be rude and shouting….just accommodating some sincere requests.  This might be the goofy segment of the flight. We started at 3:30 am and it is 7:30 pm here in Boston. We will board the Azores Airline flight in 2 hours. An hour ago I was seriously wondering if I made the wrong destination choice. It felt like I was in the wrong check in line. There were about 400 people in line to check into Icelandic Airlines next to me.  There were 40 people in my line and most of them residents returning home. Counting me I recognized 5 actual tourists. So these weird thoughts started circulating in my head. Like what if one of the volcanoes erupted and none of you emailed me about it? The islands are actually the tips of volcanoes, some still active, so don’t laugh it could happen. Did I pick the wrong time to visit or has there been some kind of military action…….

Sky Lounge Serenade by Steve Martin impersonator!

  STILL in Miami airport…..but sought refuge at the Delta Sky Lounge. Nice A/C, snacks, way to charge iPad and comfortable chairs. Pretty quiet too except for the guy sitting across from me.  A nice looking elegant older gentleman in a blue blazer top, tan pants, nice luggage and looks a lot like Steven Martin. (Is Steve Martin still alive?) Could be him?  But no mustache, could be a relative? It is very quiet here. He is focused on his cell phone…….holding it close so I know he has vision problems and refusing to wear glasses….He has a plate of salad, cheese and salami in front of him.  I can hardly keep from laughing out loud. The silence here is broken by his belching. I don’t mean once or twice, I mean about a dozen times. Not discrete little ones, loud ones that spoil his sophisticated image.  All the people around me keep looking over at him. It is suppose to be quiet in here.
