MIDNIGHT MADDNESS- The beginning of another adventure
The journey has begun.....left PDX at a little after midnight. About 4 hours later I am sitting in Terminal F at Minneapolis waiting to board the flight to Miami. From here to Miami will take another 4 hours. My flight will board in 3 hours... So YES it will take a long time to get there. My traveling companion, Donna, will meet me there. We have hotel rooms reserved and will board our flight from Miami to Portugal on Sunday afternoon.
I have known Donna Doornbos since she was in high school. Her husband, Danny, as a teenager worked for my husband. Donna and Dan have been a special part of our family and lives for many many years.
Our destination is the island of Madeira. Hard to find on a map. It is a tiny speck just north of the Canary Islands. Madeira is closer to Africa (Morocco) than to Europe. The Canary Islands belong to Spain but Madeira belongs to Portugal. One of the most dramatic and short runs ways in the world is here. Mountains on one side and the ocean on the other. ( I will mention that to Donna after we have landed.)
Madeira is famous for it's unique wine of the same name. While these remote islands are difficult to find on a map......they were well known to the explorers, pirates and traders who sailed the trade winds bringing spices, treasures and slaves to Europe.
So join Donna and I as we explore the island and learn more of it's interesting culture and history.
I am so excited!! Can’t wait to get to Miami to see you Kathy and start our adventure
